south bound
'cause she asked to take the drive down
she always says "the city gets too loud"
so i won't make a sound
'cause i know its not the life she needs to lead
so i said "we need to leave"
she counts the power lines
to pass the time while i pass to the left
street signs and skylines mark the rest
just say there wasn't ever any reason to stay
i couldn't take the blame, i wouldn't stand in the way
we both fell head over heels the same
i was just lucky to remember your name
she's got a face for the movie screen
but tastes just like cheap champagne
and we stay up high 'cause the view from the ground floor isn't quite the same
they let us get away
we never said we'd stay
but we lost sight of where we started
don't remember what they called it, anyway
we count the power lines
to pass the time while i pass to the left
street signs and skylines mark the rest
just say there wasn't ever any reason to stay
i couldn't take the blame, i wouldn't stand in the way
we both fell head over heels the same
i was just lucky to remember your name
and this is where it ends
and this is where we will be
i've still got my friends and thats all i will need
keeping the sun to my east,
i'll stick to the coast
its all i know
(let em say that we were just kids
and were back at it again
let em say that we were just kids
we were proud of what we did)
but even the shoreline can get out of reach
if you fall in too deep
uncharted and hoping not to sink
done wandering
just say there wasn't ever any reason to stay
we both fell head over heals the same
i was just lucky to remember your name
and this is where it ends
and this is where we will be
i've still got my friends and its all i will need
south bound
'cause she asked to take the drive down

A Season Revisited

she rolled onto her side,
and she said, "you cant cry, when you're sleeping right?"
but its been a while from this bed
and who cares, if she was breathing tonight
6 numbers dialed in her phone
on the ride back home
she couldn't stand to spend the night alone again
so i know what i've been missing
when i was finding out which way to go
i never thought i'd find it on my own
'cause this interstate goes on and on
but i'm done today
and couldn't you recall
every sunday our last summer
the sun was shining on us all
and would it be so bad
to forget the winter and have another
you'll see us flying on a song
she opened her eyes and she said
"another night of too much drinking"
there must be something i don't see
we live our lives from shot to shot
so who knows what she's been thinking
but where you are is where i'll be
just trace the steps
and come back home
we'll chase this around, 'cause we both know
couldn't you recall
every sunday our last summer
the sun was shining on us all
and would it be so bad
to forget the winter and have another
you'll see us flying on a song
lets waste some time
don't sleep the night away
just give it one more shot
to be up front, i'd give it away
i'll just live in black and white
wishing you were still here by my side

and i'm running from everything i was
thought i was in love, but everybody does
well i've got mind to look ahead
step back don't take the hook again
you'll end up dead
"keep up your chin", she said
take me away from all the gray skies
and take me anywhere that i could find the time
to get to know where i belong
so far from these sad songs and so-longs
where its not my fault that i was wrong
and i found i've said all i can say
and these words will make more sense someday
at least say you'll take them to your grave
take them away
i'm done wasting time
on anybody out there
to hear these lines
is anybody there
you've heard it all i know
"boy breaks her heart and and hits the road"
that's the way it goes
or how the story's told
but i've got a bone to pick with this
cause this time the words they left her lips
the same way they used to leave a kiss
what did i miss, what did i miss
so i'm done wasting time
on anybody out there
to hear these lines
is anybody there
to sing along
if anybody's out there
to hear thing song
is anybody there
this is the price we pay
for all the time i spent away
this is the day to say,
we've seen it all so stay away
let's stop repetition
it seems more useless than i recall
the last time i saw
we've seen it all so stay away

six thirty and the sun breaks through to the sky
it's late september, but the weather says otherwise yeah
you've got the right idea,
but the wrong design
you got the message
but you can't seem to open your eyes
well it's just fine
cause nothing beats a simple state of mind
and i know that you won't take it personal
you know the colds enough to keep me inside
and we all know the words that you wrote
if i could just pause my life to live
i know i wouldn't miss an hour
trace the boats along the bay
the way they stood just yesterday
its all the same
and it wouldn't even matter
just the chance to get away
but you couldn't stay, you couldn't
why would you run away
you go and run away
i'm just being honest baby
so whats your point to prove
i'll be waiting up to hear from you
but it won't be soon
i think i'll think ahead a little less
i think its overdue
you said you wanted the truth
its all i've got to lose
since i found you
i said i'd never make a point
out of aiming high
you said to never take a chance
without knowing why
yeah
we're in the wrong direction
like we're out of time
so just pass to the left
and leave it all behind
we were just fine
cause nothing beats a simple state of mind
and i know that you won't take it personal
you know the colds enough to keep me inside
and we all know the words that you wrote
if we're just being honest baby
then whats your point to prove
i'll be waiting up to hear from you
but it won't be soon
i think i'll think ahead a little less
i think its overdue
you said you wanted the truth
its all i've got to lose
since i found you
so save your tired eyes
for a night alone
and take your lying letters
for a drive back home
'cause i'm not in shape for a heartache
no i'm not in shape for a heartache
so save your tired eyes
for a night alone
and take your lying letters
for a drive back home
cause i keep the promises i make
yeah i keep the promises i make
